Location: Ahlbecker str. 3, 10438 Berlin
Please, fill in the registration form to attend the event.
The event will be held in English.
The guests of the evening will be artists from Tbilisi Bouillon Group ჯგუფი ბულიონი. The group Bullion was created in 2008 in Tbilisi. It is known for its political works and performances.
At the Kitchen Sociology evening artists will present two of their works. Both performances were shown in Russia in 2015 as a reaction to the annexation of Crimea and the imperialist claims of the country's leadership. The meanings embedded in these works seem relevant today.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF VLADIKAVKAZ AND WHO IS VLADIMIR? (2015, Alanica forum N9, Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia, Russia )
PORRIDGE FROM A KALASHNIKOV (2015, Porridge from a Kalashnikov, Art Prospect, St.Petersburg, Russia)
On the example of such a large region as the Caucasus (North and South) and, more broadly, the "post-Soviet" space, we propose to talk about the following:
What is imperial heritage? How can it be "seen" and "touched"? What are the practices of separating imperial heritage from national heritage (in ideas about territory, toponymy, culture, language, memory and history politics)? How does a state become a successor to empire or its victim? How and for what purposes are these statuses ('successor' or 'victim') used in the language of politics, conflict and art?
We invite all participants of the evening to discuss the themes touched upon in the performances.

The format of Evenings of Kitchen Sociology allows us to talk about complex and sensitive topics in a cozy atmosphere over a glass of wine, as sincerely and openly as we do in the kitchen with close friends. This is not a lecture or seminar, but a lively discussion with guest speakers.
